The Turkish Petroleum Refineries Corporation (TÜPRAŞ) ranked as Turkey's largest industrial business with 87.9 billion liras in annual production revenue. The oil company was followed mostly by automotive producers.
The Turkish Competition Authority has launched a probe into German automotive giants Audi, Porsche, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz and BMW. The authority's announcement on July 1 came as Volkswagen AG canceled plans to build a car factory in Turkey after the coronavirus pandemic jolted auto markets.
The Turkish organization Workers' Health and Job Security Assembly (ISIG) reported in their monthly "workplace homicide" report that at least 131 workers had died in work accidents in Turkey in the month of February. An overwhelming majority, 118 out of 131 of the workers who died were paid employees and construction proved to be the most fatal industry in February, claiming 18% of the 131 deaths.
The United Kingdom will prioritize signing a free trade agreement with Turkey by the end of 2020, Ambassador to Turkey Dominick Chilcott said at the fourth UK Technology Conference held in Istanbul on Feb. 17. London will use its newfound "freedom to maneuver" in trade to create free trade policies and free ports around the country, and will impose new tariffs to promote free trade.
