Zoomers in Turkey do not listen to a single genre of music. Indeed, the divisions between rap fans and rock fans, for example, may not be as stark as it was in the early 2000s, but there are K-pop aficionados, metal heads, devotees of trap, followers of arabesk rap, and other subcultures.
Younger people living in metropolitan areas are moving towards more liberal values and ideals. They expect more democracy. Older people living in the heartland of Anatolia, however, are moving in the opposite direction. As younger voters move away from the AKP, the party’s voter base is becoming more Islamist and more conservative.
Political communications experts believe that Turkey's Generation Z will be a hard demographic for candidates to win over in the 2023 general elections. One expert has told daily Hürriyet that members of this age group are either indifferent to the current political players, or simply not interested in politics.
