A foundation close to the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) will be closing down 25 of its dormitories due to financial struggles, daily Birgün reported on June 8. "We will use our resources to the 21 dormitories we will maintain and to our education services that will continue to diversify and expand," TÜRGEV said.
Turkey's Health Ministry will no longer quarantine travelers returning to Turkey in public dormitories, but instead track their isolation at their homes. The ministry will also evacuate travelers who are currently quarantined in public dormitories without their 14-day isolation period elapses, on the condition that they test negative for COVID-19.
A document titled "COVID-19 normalization plan" with the presidential seal raised question marks in terms of its authenticity on social media, as the file can't be found on any official website. A number of Turkish media outlets reported that the PDF wasn't authentic and that no "normalization plan" was officially announced.
Some 209 Turkish citizens were evacuated from the Maldives, after which they were placed under quarantine in public dormitories in the Central Anatolian province of Kırşehir. The Family and Social Policies Ministry noted they would provide counseling to the citizens who will remain quarantined for two weeks.
Some 12,912 persons are held under quarantine in 87 different dormitories around Turkey, Youth and Sports Minister Muharrem Kasapoğlu said April 14. Meanwhile, some 60 individuals were released from quarantine in Bursa.
