Total number of vaccinations administered in Turkey surpasses 25 mln

The number of COVID-19 vaccinations administered in Turkey surpassed 25 million, the Health Ministry said on May 16. Meanwhile, 50 million doses of the BioNTech are expected to arrive in Turkey by July, and the Health Ministry said that they hope to vaccinate all citizens over 20 in the same period.

The number of vaccinations in Turkey surpassed 25 million, the Health Ministry said on May 16, days after the government revealed ambitious vaccination goals. 

Some 14,959,661 vaccinations were administered as first doses on patients, the Health Ministry noted, adding that 10,835,497 jabs were administered as second doses. 

A total of 25,795,158 doses were administered nationwide, the Health Ministry reported, and Ankara aims to fully vaccinate all citizens over 20, Turkish agencies reported on May 15. 

Istanbul is home to the largest number of vaccinations in the country, with a total of 4,264,594 doses administered, followed by the capital, where 2,088,683 doses were administered. 

Some 50 additional doses of the BioNTech vaccination are due to arrive in Turkey by July, while a shipment of Russian Sputnik V vaccines is reported to be expected in the coming weeks.
