Assailant opens fire on Starbucks store in Turkey’s Adana over alleged support to Israel

An armed assailant opened fire on a Starbuck store in Turkey’s Adana province while shouting “Children are dying in Palestine” as no one was killed or injured. The incident became the latest in a string of attacks against the coffee chain over its alleged support to Israel.

An armed assailant on Dec. 13 fired a shotgun at a Starbuck store in Turkey’s southern Adana province while shouting “Children are dying in Palestine.”

The assailant was detained by the police as no one was killed or injured in the attack according to reporting by the Demirören News Agency.

"After the attack in question, our police units immediately arrived at the scene and caught the suspect with the initials of O.G., born in 1988, and an investigation was launched into the incident," the Adana Governor's Office tweeted on Dec. 13.

The incident became the latest in a string of attacks and protests against the coffee chain along with other U.S.-based businesses in Turkey over their alleged support to Israel.

In some of the incidents, the protestors entered a Starbucks store and threw away the customers’ coffees.

Starbucks’ Middle Eastern operations including Turkey are owned by the Kuwait-based Alshaya Group.
