A specialized sergeant has been arrested in the southeastern province of Şırnak for attempting to sexually abuse a 13-year-old girl. Eyewitnesses told the police that the specialized sergeant had pulled a gun after they wanted to question him regarding the sexual abuse incident.
A non-governmental women's platform urged the government to stop proceedings on a legal amendment that would grant amnesty to sexual predators. The platform also urged the government to not consider recusing from the Istanbul Convention, an international treaty against domestic violence and violence against children.
A court failed to arrest a man accused of molesting his children after the third hearing of the case against him. A prosecutor had previously failed to convict him because of an ongoing divorce case with the children's mother.
The Turkish Federation of Women's Associations has urged Atatürk University to take action against one of its professors after he cited “being a girl aged between 6-8” and “the existence of seductive behaviors that develop suddenly at the girl” among the “reasons of domestic sexual abuse.”
