Some 88 female operators have been recently appointed to Istanbul Metro as the metropolitan municipality prepares to open a new line on the European side on Oct. 29. Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu said they expect a daily 400,000 passengers on the new Mahmutbey-Mecidiyeköy line.

Good (İYİ) Party leader Meral Akşener has said that the majority of the Turkish people want to return to a parliamentary system, adding that the current "freakish" system can't govern the country. "Turkey's economy has worsened, the youth doesn't have hope to find jobs, agriculture and industry have collapsed. The people are suffering from not being able to find food and fear being unemployed," she said.
Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoğlu was ranked the most successful mayor in handling the COVID-19 pandemic in a recent survey by private poller SONAR Research. Imamoğlu was followed by Izmir Mayor Tunç Soyer, also from main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP).
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Council has raised the price of water by 12.6 percent. AKP councillor Tevfik Göksu said that although Istanbul's Water Authority İSKİ had demanded a raise of 35 percent, AKP and MHP councillors would be willing to approve only a 12.6 percent raise, which he said was the current average inflation rate.
Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu submitted an official complaint against President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's Kanal Istanbul project. The artificial canal project would split Turkey's European land in half, and has been criticized for severe environmental risks.
The COVID-19 pandemic has reportedly cost the Istanbul Municipality some 5,000,000 Turkish Liras. The city will be pausing non-essential projects for a year to compensate for the emergency spending, Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu said.

İmamoğlu said the 27 probes against him were based on forged documents, accusing Soylu and the inspector assigned to the investigations of abusing their power of authority.
Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu opened an urban forest named after the founder of the Turkish Republic on the national holiday for his commemoration. The Ataturk Urban Forest was opened on May 19, Turkey's national Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day.
A foundation led by the Turkish president's son-in-law announced May 13 that they were annulling a contract they had signed with the Istanbul Municipality (IBB) in 2017, before it was won by main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP). The announcement came after a few weeks long brawl with CHP deputy Veli Ağbaba about the project that started when the latter claimed that Istanbul municipality had funneled 41 million liras to T3 Foundation.
Turkish Interior Ministry has allowed a total of 27 investigations to be launched into Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu over a number of allegations belonging to his term as a the mayor of the city's Beylikdüzü district, Istanbul Municipality said on May 13. The municipality noted that the permit lacks legal basis, adding that İmamoğlu filed a complaint against the decision to the Council of State.
Istanbul Municipal Council's members from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) have significantly decreased the municipality's resources despite the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, prompting criticism from Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu for being politically-motivated.
